These are a set of 3 posters showcasing areas around Grand Staircase National Monument in Southern Utah that were shown in the Southern Utah Museum of Art for the BFA show in April 2021.
The inspiration for these posters came from a road trip through Escalante to Lake Powell. It was the first time I'd been through that part of the state, and there was so much to explore. After I got back home, I started looking at hiking and travel blogs and making mental lists of places I wanted to visit. These three posters are all of places near the top of that list.
For each animation, the goal was to draw the viewer in slowly, and then give them time to appreciate the view. Each animation starts with a relatively fast motion and then has 30 seconds with slower, more gradual movement. I feel like this type of animation fits well with the experience of visiting outdoor places in Utah.
